Hidden Subscriptions on CV Template Websites: Be Careful

There are many websites offering CV templates online. Be cautious, as subscribing to these sites often comes with a free trial period, which may turn into a paid subscription if you do not take certain precautions.

What you need to know

  • Read the terms and conditions carefully
When using these websites, thoroughly check all displayed information. If a statement such as “start subscription with payment obligation” appears, be aware that it constitutes a binding commitment, even if the service begins with a free trial period
  • Trial duration and fees after the trial
Find out the exact duration of the trial period and the fees applicable after the trial ends
  • Cancel before the trial ends
If you do not wish to continue with the subscription, remember to cancel before the trial period ends. The cancellation terms should be outlined in the website’s terms and conditions

In case of disputes

  • If you receive an invoice or a payment request from the website, do not ignore it. Respond to contest the payment, explaining that you were not aware of the conditions or that you cancelled the subscription within the appropriate timeframe
  • If the website is based in another EU country, contact the European Consumer Centre Luxembourg. We can assist you in asserting your rights
